DR. KRIMO TOUTAH

Post Doctoral Researcher

Krimo specializes in medicinal and organic chemistry and acquired a lot of  experience in the fields of multistep synthesis, characterization and purification of a wide range of heterocyclic compounds (Therapeutic compounds, chiral ligands, molecular dyes and other building blocks) and organometallic catalysis.

Krimo has recently completed a 2 year post-doctoral fellowship at Ryerson University, Downtown Toronto, in Russell Viirre's group, where he worked on the synthesis of new molecular probes based on Ivacaftor, a newly-approved drug for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis. These probes are tested by Prof. Christine Bear's group at SickKids hospital.

Krimo completed his PhD at Pierre & Marie University in Paris, France in the area of heterocyclic and organometallic chemistry. More precisely, his research activities were focused on the synthesis of chiral N-Heterocyclic Carbenes (NHC) and on the development of umpolung-type allylation reactions of carbonyl compounds catalyzed by Pd-NHC complexes.

During his Master’s thesis, his work was focused on the development of analogues of Hymenialdisine, an efficient natural inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinases, for the treatment of inflammatory and Alzheimer's disease, or cancer, using a new cascade radical cyclization pathway, comprising two cyclizations in a single step to yield the desired molecules.
