Gary was born in London, Ontario. He is of Hong Kong Chinese descent. He graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BSc. in Honours Chemistry in 2012. He then subsequently obtained his MSc. at UWaterloo School of Pharmacy in 2015 working with Dr. Praveen Nekkar developing novel small molecule inhibitors towards the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

 

During his MSc. he has also participated in two industry placements at Cyclica Inc. and Dalton Pharma Services. His current research efforts working with Dr. Patrick Gunning focuses on developing novel small molecule inhibitors of the STAT3 and STAT5 protein complexes as potential cancer therapeutics.

 

Outside the laboratory, he loves to play badminton and basketball. He is also an avid cook and enjoys being a foodie. =)
